Settings File

This morning I added new network locations for various resources, materials, backplates etc under the preferences menu.

Upon restarting , Keyshot now freezes to a point where I cannot do anything - there are no error messages though.

Can you tell me whether there is an editable settings file (.txt?) which contains my saved preferences? I am wondering whether I can manually remove the paths I added to see if it resolves the freezing issue. If it does, I can then add then add them back in one by one to hopefully determine the root cause.

Thank you

Hello Alex,

Thank you for contacting Luxion.
Yes there is, hopefully this will solve the issue. However if you do not have full read/write permissions to these areas you will not be able to load or use the content.
But to clear the cache, you will need to find and delete the Settings.xml file. I've added a walkthrough of how to find this file on both Windows and Mac.

Windows Instructions:
1. Go to either one of the destinations below:
  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\KeyShot #
  • C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\KeyShot #
2. Look for KS#Settings.xml file and delete that file
3. Relaunch KeyShot. DO NOT migrate any settings from older versions of KeyShot if it asks again.

Macintosh Instructions:
1. Click on Go on finder bar then click on Computer
2. Open Macintosh HD
3. Open Library folder
4. Open Application Support folder
5. Open KeyShot # folder
6. Look for KS#Settigns.xml file and delete that file

Launch KeyShot once the file has been deleted.
Let me know if that worked for you

I think I have found it (KS9Settings.xml) though it's not clear when reviewing the contents how I might return to the default paths (I thought there might be a true/false variable to determine default or customised paths).

So, now I have discovered the problem - there is a long list of unsupported files in one of the folder paths I used and the freeze is presumably caused by Keyshot working through all the files, because after a while it gave me a message about them.

My follow-up question is this: the message box which tells me about the unsupported files provides the option to 'remove from library'. Does this mean it will remove them from my library in Keyshot, or will it remove the files in the destination folder?

I assume it's the former but I want to make sure as the unsupported files are likely used by other users in different applications.

Hi Erik, thanks for these instructions - I am now up and running again!

With regard to my follow-up question, does the 'remove from library' option (which appears when I am told about the unsupported textures/backplates) only remove them from my Keyshot library only, or does it remove the file from the resource path folder?

Thanks again!

No problem Alex. Glad it helped.

If you delete something from the Library, it deletes the item from your Resource Folder as well. So please keep in mind that once it is gone, its gone.

You would have to try to find the item again on cloud.keyshot.com to get the item back.

Thank you! If there is anything else we can do for you just let me know.
