Plywood edges

How do I go about doing plywood edged? I have some simple planar rectangular parts I need to make in plywood. I have both the files for the top birch face  and the laminated edges but do not know how to separate the surfaces of the parts to apply the two different finishes. How do I go about applying two different finishes to the same part?

Hello Alex,

Thank you for contacting Luxion .
While you cannot directly apply different finishes to the same part, you can apply different properties using the 'advanced' material type as well as textures to add different mapping.

You can also separate separate objects or split object surfaces and parts by right-clicking on the model in the real-time view and selecting the appropriate option.

In here, you will be able to split the objects and make the needed changes to the materials.

I hope this helps. Let us know how this works for you.

Thanks Erik, that all makes perfect sense, but when I right click on a model, I dont get the same options.

The split object functions are not available.

Hello Alex,

Without the CAD file, I can only assume that the wood is one solid geometry. This would stop you from splitting the surfaces.
But you should be able to get the desired results by making changes in the advanced material.

If you wish, you can send us a copy of your scene. I will take a look.
If it is an assembly please include all parts in a zipped folder. You may send it securely via our WeTransfer site.

WeTransfer link here.

Please make sure to include the following in the message field for your upload:

1. Your Ticket ID:       22651
2. The Case Subject: Plywood edges
3. Support Agent:       Erik Williams

This will allow us to track your files in our system.

Hi Erik, still cannot find the split/edit surfaces function. Is this available only on the pro version? I have the HD or basic version.

I do this routinely in CAD by splitting the solid model into the proper number of veneer layers.  Import to KeyShot and apply materials as you would normally.

Cheers

Thankyou.
