Shadow problems between V9 and V10.2 - Big Bug ? ? ?

Hello KeyShot Community,

we have had a serious problem since last year that apparently nobody notices ...

There is a massive difference between the shadows in V9 and V10.2 - tested on multiple Windows 10 machines.

All scenes that we created in V9 look different in V10 .. that was not the case between older versions ....

Our question

1. Has the algorithm been changed?

2. What is now correct V9 or V10?

3. Is it a known bug?

4. Is it being worked on?

5. When will this be fixed?

Unfortunately, this behavior is not very future-proof ... we have hundreds of scenes, materials, ... that have simply looked different since V10.2.

You can understand this misbehavior with any geometry.

Attached you will find a KSP V9.3 and a few screenshots > standard environment, material KeyShot Gold polished, lighting preset identical to jewelry / jewels.

Please provide detailed information on what is currently the case here.

Thanks!

Best

Philip

Hello Philip,

Thank you for contacting Luxion.
I  can see what you mean. With every release there are tweaks to improve images. Caustics has been drastically improved in KeyShot 10, which is why you are seeing a difference in your shadowing. You are also rendering in custom control.
Generally we recommend rendering using either max samples or max time to insure compatibility between versions.

We apologize if these updates blind-sided you. We will do our best to inform all of our customers about any changes like this in the future.

Hello Erik,

Thank you for your information!

Does that mean that the current status in KeyShot V10 is more correct and that we should adapt everything to it?

Another change is not coming?

Thanks!

Best

Philip

Hello Philip,

Yes the current version of KeyShot 10 is the most updated and correct version.

We are issuing a patch to KeyShot 10 in the near future, but there should be no future changes to the caustics.

I would recommend adapting any scenes you wish to use these improved settings.

Best Regards,

Erik

ok... bad news for us ;-)
Thank you for the info!

Philip
