Need to be able to re-calculate normals after displace

I had a heavily displaced object and even with high displacement settings, I was seeing poorly shaded results after the displace. When I try to re-calculate normals, the displacement node is disabled and the original non-displaced geometry is presented in the edit normals tool. 

I think this needs to be fixed and users should be able to get smooth surfaces after displacement if normals need to be re-calculated. Perhaps a 'bake' displacement option?
